Breakers Coach Jay Gomez / Goal Keeper Stephanie Busch shine bright in Florida National ODP Camp
COCOA, FLORIDA, February 12, 2007 – United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League held their national Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camp in Eastern Florida’s Cocoa Expo Center last weekend. This was the final camp of the 2007 season and it involved some of the best U13-U15 girls talent in North America. The camp concluded Sunday, February 11 with the naming of the ’91, ’92, and ‘93 Super Y-League Select Teams.
SCC Breakers coach Jay Gomez and U-14G Goalkeeper Stephanie Busch were selected to attend the camp. "It was great experience to see the kids compete in a high level environment" said Gomez. "Stephanie represented the Breakers club proudly despite some nagging injuries during the camp. Her experience should be a personal goal for every kid in our club. From a coaches perspective it was a tremendous privilege to represent our Breakers club".
“It lends a lot of integrity to the Super Y-League system when U.S. National Team staff is joining in on meetings, asking for our coaches’ feedback, and afterwards, looking for information on players they want to bring into their system from our camps,” said Super Y-League ODP Camp Technical Director John Hannan. “The Super Y-League is no longer being looked and being asked; ‘what are you guys all about?’ People know the Super Y-League is a legitimate way to be seen. They have earned their integrity.” “Within any ODP structure the numbers are greater with the younger groups because the possibilities are greater,” added Hannan. “Their future is still ahead of them. Their enthusiasm is high. They seemed ready to go during opening ceremonies and I think we have a young staff that can match that energy.”
USL’s National Scouting Network consists of youth coaches encompassing North America including: John Thompson (South Jersey Barons), Christina Bell and Cris Gilmore (Juventus Sports Club, California), Mark McDevitt (Mass Premier Soccer, Boston), Jay Gomez (Santa Cruz County Breakers, California) Robert Lovelace (Triangle FC, North Carolina), Steve Sobey (Chicago Magic), Paul Roderick (Long Island Rough Riders), Andrew Latham (Thompson-Okanagan, Canada), Seth Coulter Black Watch Rhode Island), Adam Richie and Jay Golomb (Baltimore Bays), Keith Thompson (Victoria United), Paul Cleary (New Hampshire Phantoms), James Kryger (Cocoa Expos), Lee Pollard and Andrew Sparks (Red Bull New York). |
