March 2004 - Tony Parenti (SCC Morelia) Commits To Play at Cal-Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Tony Parenti, one of the premier goal keepers in Santa Cruz County, has been offered a position in the Biology Honors program at Cal-Poly, San Luis Obispo. Parenti, a high achieving student athlete, achieved high marks both on and off the field with a high school GPA of 4.2 and 1310 SAT score. He has earned High Honors on the Golden State Chemistry Exam, and Honors on the Biology Exam.
Cal-Poly is a Division 1 program competing in the Big West conference along with teams such as UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, and a new addition this year, UC Davis. He was told by the Head Coach, Wolfgang Gartner that he has a good chance of playing as a Freshman. If on the active roster, Parenti will be receive a 1/3 scholarship, worth approximately $7000.
Parenti started contacting schools as a sophomore, and had conversations with the coaches at Cal, Davis, Santa Barbara and UCSC. His soccer resume includes: twice being names to the District 2 ODP team, invitations to the State ODP team and Super Y Regional team tryouts, SCCAL 1st Team All League, Co-MVP of the Aptos High soccer team, and MVP of the Cal Elite soccer camp last summer.
While very diligent in contacting and keeping in touch with the coaches at these schools, Parenti attributes his opportunity, in part, to being part of the support he received from Paul Holocher, the SCC Boys Coaching Director, in getting him identified.
The Santa Cruz Premier Futbol Club (SCCPFC) wishes Tony great success in his College career bit on and off the field.
