After two successful years of the Development Academy at the U16 and U18 age level, the US Soccer Federation was considering expanding their program to the U14 age group. After a long evaluation and many efforts toward expanding the program this upcoming season, on April 23 US Soccer communicated to its US Soccer Development Academy Staff that they will not expand the program to the U14 age group this year . They will still evaluate this option for the future.

However, The US Development Academy Norcal Clubs; including the De Anza Force, Danville Mustang, Cal Odyssey, California Development Academy (Placer and San Juan clubs representing the Sacramento Area), the Santa Cruz Breakers and some of the Socal clubs (LA Galaxy and Chivas USA) are working on creating a Pre-Academy U14 (95 and 96 players) schedule under the same model than is already in place for the U16 and U18 age groups.  These clubs are considering having 20 to 25 pre- academy games a year and limiting the travel to Norcal and a couple of trips per year to Southern California. Mini showcases in Norcal for the Fall and Spring season will be created and training camps with National Coaching Staff will most likely be arranged.

What this means for the Breakers is that we are going to have our regular U14 and U15 teams playing under CYSA and US Club Soccer.  When the pre-academy schedule is created, we will pull players from either team (all the 95 and 96 players in our club will be eligible) to play pre-academy games without affecting the regular season of both CYSA and US club soccer events.  Pre-academy players will train twice a week with their regular team, and will train once a week with the pre-academy coaching staff.

Once the U16 and U18 academy schedule for the 2009-2010 season is created in July, the clubs will also look at creating the U14 pre-academy schedule.   The U14 pre-academy will play most of their games directly before the U16 and U18 team academy games.

More details will be presented and explained to the parents and players at tryouts.


USSF U18 Boys – Breakers Academy Team
Players born in 1991 and 1992 (calendar year)
1 team of 20 full time players will be formed.
5 developmental players will be considered to join for training sessions
A developmental player can play up to 6 games with the Academy and still be signed up with a different Breakers team in the club.

Players born in 1993 and 1994 (calendar year)
1 team of 20 full time players will be formed.
5 developmental players will be considered to join for training sessions.
A developmental player can play up to 6 games with the Academy and still be signed up with a different Breakers team in the club.
