The Santa Cruz County Breaker Under-17 girls defeated an Under 18 DeAnza team on Sunday to win the 2010 San Francisco Cup at the Crocker Soccer Complex in San Francisco.

Coached by Cabrillo College Head Women’s Coach Mike Arzabal, this Breakers team took the tournament in the first two days of this three-day Memorial Weekend tournament.  The Santa Cruz County team won two matches Saturday and 2 matches Sunday, defeating teams from the Juventus, Ajax and Mt Hamilton Clubs in addition to DeAnza.  The older Breaker girls represent the top players from Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Aptos, Harbor and Soquel High School varsity teams.  College scouts from Cal, Stanford, UC Davis, USF, and SF State were among the schools scouting for freshmen players during the competition.  Fifteen-year-old Scotts Valley keeper Emily Johnson gave up only 3 goals during the entire tournament.  The team’s nine goals were scored by forward Caitlin Akeman, mid-fielders Lindsay Curran, Graceann Rettig, Shannon Christerson and Kinsey Furniss, and defender Kate Mosenthine.
